Ubuntu Honduras Team at T3 Conference at EIS
Finally we made it at T3 Conference (Teachers Teaching Teachers) at the EIS in San Pedro Sula.
We spent two hours with 12 teachers that showed to be very interested to learn how to merge Free Software in education. We shared some information about Ubuntu and GNU/Linux and its importance on today’s education.
Our goal was to create some motivation on them to implement Ubuntu/Edubuntu in their school and I think we did it.
After a brief introduction of Diego about Free Software and the importance of Ubuntu on it, Alex did great talking about OppenOffice.org and then Luis talked about the wide range of application options available in Edubuntu to benefit the work of teachers and education. Finally I invited everyone to join the community and help us help us spread the seed of Ubuntu throughout Honduras.
We had a great visit, our friend Ricardo joined us on this event. He is from Honduras but is not living here right now. It was great to have him and we are always grateful for his support even from far.

First Symposium of Technological Advances
We keep going, today Luis and I (tatica1) had the First Symposium of Technological Advances at the University of San Pedro Sula where we shared a good time with the students of the Instituto Técnico de San Pedro Sula.
We exposed some topics to explain them about Linux, Free Software, Richard Stallman and his GNU project, Linus Torvalds and Linux, different distributions on Linux and and its advantages, Free Software in public administrations and Ubuntu.
The students were quite interested and asked questions to win an Ubuntu CD 😀 like if Ubuntu recognizes different types of hardware or drivers must be installed separately, the difference between Ubuntu and Kubuntu, what does Ubuntu mean, if it is compatible with other operating systems, if they could run games and what kind, how can be installed Repositories.
Ubuntu Honduras Team appreciate the invitation of the University and thank the participation of the students.

Ubuntu Honduras Team keep seeding Freedom
Hi everyone! Here I am again writing about another extraordinary event that we had yesterday at the FLISOL 2010 in San Pedro Sula Honduras.
We started at 9:00 a.m. with a full living room of the auditorium of UNITEC University, I think we had around 400 visitors by the end of the day at 4:00 p.m.
We had a lot of activity all day around the workshops that were always full of students, teachers and professionals interested in the different topics.
During the day we introduced people to Free Software talking about:
1. What’s FLISOL (Free Software Installation Latinamerican Festival), What’s Free Software and Ubuntu Honduras, what it is? Do you want to join us? by Diego Turcios.
2. Four freedoms of Free Software and Free Software in public administrations by Elvira Martínez.
3. Free Office Packages, Upgrading the operating system without Internet and Using Inkscape for vectorial design, Applications Using Gimp Digital Retouching by Alex Hernandez.
4. What is Ubuntu Linux by Luis Araya.
5. Installation of a web server under Ubuntu, Ubuntu Linux in Education, Edubuntu adjunct to our operating system, Video Games GNU / Linux, Ethics and Free Software and the last but not less important Tribox on CentOS.
We give away 100 CDs of Ubuntu 9.10 and about 50 of Kubuntu and some pens and stickers, I think that was the part that caught the attention 😉 Everybody wanted one!!!
I really want to thank everyone, specially Lic. Mirtha Coto, UNITEC Students in general that supported us, the whole Ubuntu team of Honduras and of course the attendees in general.

Excellent Ubuntu activity @UNAH-VS
As Honduran team is definitely satisfactory to have events like the one last night. Alex and I (tatica1) visited a local university UNAH-VS in San Pedro Sula (Honduras) where we met with approximately 100 computer science students that were very interested in the subject that we discussed.
We gave a brief introduction about our meeting objectives and then Alex presented about Free Software and the importance of Ubuntu on it. At the end we invited students to join the team, explained how it works and told them we needed more active people to join us and to help promote Ubuntu in Honduras as the best operating system.
We shared some Ubuntu CDs with them and invited them through flyers to join us next Friday April 23th at the FLISOL Latin American Free Software Installation Festival.
It was very gratifying that several students showed interest giving us their e-mail asking us to send them the presentation we made.

We gave a brief introduction about our objectives for the meeting and then Alex made his presentation to explain what Free Software and the importance of Ubuntu on it. At the end we invite students to join the team, explain how it works and how we need more active people to join us to help promote Ubuntu as operating system.
CDs were given away and gave them a cordial invitation to participate in delivering flyers FLISOL of this activity.
Ubuntu Honduras at the UNAH-VS
The Ubuntu Onduras team will be visiting today a local University in San Pedro Sula (UNAH-VS) .
We are going to talk to 150 students about Ubuntu, what is Free Software, using the Ubuntu Server and we will share to them some Ubuntu Karmic CDs. Since the idea of the university is to merge to Ubuntu, we hope to make these students love Ubuntu as we do!!

Una familia para los hijos
Anoche estuve con mi esposo en una conferencia muy interesante en el colegio de mis hijas donde nos hablaron de esta etapa tan complicada que puede llegar a ser la adolescencia y la importancia de la familia en ella.
La conferencia motivacional fue impartida por el Licenciado Arturo López y además de explicarnos los principios, leyes, valores e instrucciones de como manejar una familia basada en el respeto y el amor, nos hizo la noche muy amena y divertida.
Trataré de contar en estas líneas de manera sencilla lo que el señor López nos trasmitió.
Para comenzar es importante refrescar la memoria de un tema que todos los días nos controla y es la sensación de que estamos en crisis. Crisis de guerra, de hambre, de delincuencia, crisis de violencia y de corrupción, de injusticias y de valores. Pero es importante darnos cuenta que esto no surgió de la nada ni porque sí. Toda esta crisis se origina en el seno de la familia. Padres que no cumplieron y nunca entendieron la responsabilidad a la que se enfrentaban cuando decidieron concebir sus hijos. La parte más fácil de esta historia es hacer y concebir los hijos, lo que sigue es la parte más importante y complicada.
Hay varios puntos importantes a analizar sobre el sistema de la familia:
1. Si la familia decae, el hombre se autodestruye.
2. Ni el gobierno, ni las instituciones tienen la culpa de todo lo que sucede, sino nosotros mismos los que conformamos esa familia y hemos fallado en la formación de vidas sanas.
3. La familia es una institución que Dios inventó.
4. No sirve de nada la ciencia, el arte, la tecnología si nuestros hijos se pierden en la confusión, en el vacio interior y en la degradación social.
5. Los responsables de nuestros hijos y de lo que ellos sean, somos nosotros mismos.
6 La paternidad no es actualizable, lo que existe al respecto ya está inventado. No es cuestión de darle update.
7. Y por último esta reflexión que me pareció interesante. Si como esposos perdemos a la esposa somos viudos, si ella nos pierde a nosotros ella es viuda, si nuestros hijos nos pierden a nosotros son huérfanos, pero si los padres pierden a los hijos no hay un nombre para esto. Pues como padres somos eternos, tenemos una tarea vitalicia que aún después de fallecidos, nuestros hijos nos traerán al recuerdo pidiendonos auxilio.
Para manejar una familia con éxito es indispensable tener en cuenta 5 principios o leyes básicas que son:
1. EL EJEMPLO: los hijos cargan en el subconsciente por muchos años los patrones de conducta que observen en sus padres. Uno de los retos de la paternidad es como darles un mejor ejemplo a los hijos.
2. EL AMOR INCONDICIONAL: a los hijos debemos darles amor sin condiciones. Expresiones como si te portas bien te quiero mucho, Te amo si……, te amo porque…… no son sinónimo de amor incondicional. A pesar de que se equivoquen o no cubran nuestras expectativas en algunos momentos, el amor por ellos no es negociable.
3. LA DISCIPLINA: normas de disciplina delimitan la única área confiable sobre la que puede edificarse la torre del éxito familiar. El respeto, la unión y la autonomía son fundamentales para que esa disciplina tenga un impacto positivo en los hijos. Lo que digas a tus hijos, los marcará para siempre. En la disciplina hay que ser firmes pero justos.
4. LA COMUNICACIÓN PRODUNDA: es necesario mantener una sana conversación entre los miembros de la familia. Existen varios tipos de comunicaciones como la social cuando forzamos a los hijos a atender una visita que a ellos no les interesa o la superficial cuando no prestamos atención a lo que ellos nos están diciendo y seguimos con nuestras actividades o cuando sólo contestamos con reproches o peleas mientras nuestros hijos siguen en su mundo pegados a una computadora o a su iPod, o como cuando todos estamos perdidos en la televisión mientras compartimos momentos especiales como la cena, cuando en medio de el almuerzo contestamos el celular en vez de hacer de ese momento una actividad familiar que se respete ante todo. Por eso es importante tener con nuestro hijos conversaciones profundas, donde ellos sientan que ellos son el centro de atención cuando nos piden de nuestro tiempo.
Podemos caer en muchos errores en la comunicación cuando esta no es profunda.
Cuál sería tu reacción en un caso como este???? Posiblemente su maestra les habló en clase sobre ayudar a mamá con todo lo que vean sucio y esa es precisamente fue la intensión. La comunicación profunda nos permite hacerle ver a nuestros hijos desde otra perspectiva que tal vez la que esté usando no sea la única salida.
5. EL DESARROLLO O LIDERAZGO ESPIRITUAL: la pregunta, Quién está inspirando espiritualmente a tus hijos? me impactó. Sobre todo cuando he sido una mujer creyente pero siento que he descuidado la tarea de seguir fomentando en mis hijas que tengan esa relación con Dios pudiendo caer en el riesgo de que otros lo hagan por mí confundiendolas.
En conclusión todo lo que como padres sembramos, cosechamos. No existen organizaciones que inviertan dinero en la familia, más si las hay para preservar la ballena gris por ejemplo. Los únicos que podemos salvar a nuestras instituciones familiares hoy y hacer a nuestros hijos personas de bien, somos nosotros mismos.

Primer Pizza Bash Ubuntu Honduras 2010
Primer Pizza Bash en San Pedro Sula del team de Ubuntu Honduras. LLegamos muy puntuales todos, le dimos la bienvenida a un nuevo miembro Luis Labbe. A la reunión asistimos DiegoTurcios, Alex Hernández, Luis Araya, Luis Labbe y Elvira Martínez. Extrañamos a Josue y a Rcarcamo entre otros que habían dicho que llegaban 😉
Revisamos los temas de la Agenda y llegamos a acuerdos sobre las actividades de este año, comenzando por las planificadas para los 4 primeros meses:
1. El 4 de febrero 2010 se realizará una presentación sobre Ubuntu en la Universidad de San pedro Sula, La Privada.
2. El 13 de Febrero 2010 se realizará el T3 Conference en la Escuela Internacional Sanpedrana. Durante dos horas se hablará sobre Ubuntu a los dirigentes de varias escuelas de San Pedro Sula en esta actividad.
3. Hablamos sobre algunos eventos que vienen para el mes de Abril y que están pendientes por confirmar pero nos pusimos responsabilidades para lograr llevarlos a cabo:
a. El Simposio de la Universidad Privada de San Pedro Sula.
b. El FLISOL (Festival Internacional de Software Libre)
c. Y el Lucid Lynx Release Party.
Se habló de la posibilidad de hacer estos tres eventos en un sólo día, mismo lugar.
4. Ubuntu Tour
Es una actividad que debemos continuar este año, para seguir llevando a las Escuelas e Institutos la información que queremos acerca de UBUNTU. También aquí tomamos responsabilidades sobre los lugares a los que queremos llegar en estos primeros meses del año.
Alex Hernandez y Elvira Martínez definirán las visitas de algunas escuelas.
5. Talleres
Hablamos de realizar dos tipos de talleres, los primeros serán para los miembros del team con el objetivo de retroalimentarnos nosotros mismos e ir aprendiendo cada vez más sobre Ubuntu. Los otros serían talleres en Universidades de San Pedro Sula con el objetivo de que puedan sacarle un mayor provecho a Ubuntu.
La pasamos muy bien, las cervecitas estuvieron super y hubo poca hambre, no le fue bien a Pizza Hut con nosotros. Nuestro nuevo miembro nos divirtió mucho y creo que lo hicimos pasar también un buen rato. Para rematar me hicieron trampa y me hicieron celebrar mi cumpleaños y pusieron a bailar con los meseros, esa no se las perdono 😛

I Pizza Bash Ubuntu Honduras San Pedro Sula
Primer Pizza Bash en San Pedro Sula del team de Ubuntu Honduras. LLegamos muy puntuales todos :D. En lo personal me alegró volver a ver a Luis Araya y sentir que a pesar del poco tiempo con que cuenta quiere estar allí apoyando. Asistimos a la reunión DiegoTurcios, Alex Hernández, Luis Araya, nuevo miembro Luis Labbe (bienvenido!!!!!!) y Elvira Martínez. Extrañamos a Josue y a Rcarcamo entre otros que habían dicho que llegaban 😉
Completamos todos los temas de la agenda que teníamos pendientes y nos pusimos compromisos para cumplirlos y llevar a cabo los planes que tenemos como team este año. Definimos las actividades que tenemos pensadas hasta le mes de abril.
